While there is some truth to the linked article, many doctors and researchers still believe that myopia is caused by a combination of near induced stress and genetics. It does make sense that taking breaks from reading is good. When taking breaks outdoors, there is distant stimuli on the eyes, countering the near stimulus of reading and computer work. It makes you think that if you had a very big house, would you get the same stimulus as you would have being outdoors?
